today i pulled my '49 cubs touch control unit apatr and put a kit in it, it was a mess, i fought every piece, and by the look of the screens and the strainer i have reason to believe 1949 was the last time it was touched, the strainer was plugged off, with goo as were the screens valves ect got it put back together finaly and it workes and workes good no hopping up and down at all and holds where i leave the mower only down side was i found where some previous ace mechanic used the wrong fitting on the carb and took all the threads out of the carb where the gas line attaches not only the wrong threads but the line size was 2 sizes to large, he just wallowed out the rubber hose to fit [ it was dripping which is why i was inspecting it, just hate stuff like that guess i need or get me a carb now ,

No need to get a new carb. You can Heli-Coil it down to the correct size or even JB Weld in a fitting that would be compatible with one you could put on the fuel line. A new carb is upwards of 250 !
