Valve cover gasket H

Put sealer on the side that attaches to the cover, that way you can get to the valves to adjust them without ruining the gasket. Otherwise I would coat both sides.

I have a cork gasket on mine and did not use any sealer. No leaks yet and I've had it off a couple of times.

The thing I did for years on H and M style valve covers was to use the steam cleaner to soften up that cork gasket. It really did the trick to take up for all those distorted covers. I would lay the cover on top of gasket, start snugging it down and then usually push the gasket back under cover in some spots as they stretch considerable. Made a nice compressible gasket. Boiling hot water would not do the trick but with the old steam cleaner it just took a moment to soften it up. Now days, no steam cleaner, so I use RTV as needed.
