just bought a "52 super c couple of months ago. I knew the front engine seal was leaking i"ve used it a good deal around the house and at me parents disking and bush hoggin. bearly dropped any oil. now the rear wheel/axle just started leaking and the side/belt output shaft on the PTO stated leaking. I do not intend to use the belt shaft so i was wondering if it could be easily removed and sealed off or how hard it is to replace the other leaking seals

Tractor has to be split to replace the engine seal. You may be able to get the pulley shaft seal out without removing the retainer, easier with the retainer out, you will also need a gasket. You have to remove the axle housing, as that is an inner seal -- there is not supposed to be any oil in the housing. I removed the axle and housing as a unit on mine, meaning you have to remove the bull gear from the shaft. If you don't have a parts book, there are diagrams in the parts section of www.caseih.com

Just to add some clarity. CNKS is on the mark.

That fropnt main seal will require splitting the front casting away from the crankcase, and removal of the crank pulley and timing cover. The seal on that one is pressed into the back side of the timing cover.

For the rear axle, they did tend to leak first at the tranny end of the axle. Somewhere in life, I think I've heard that the felt seal at the outer end of the axle was felt so that it could soak up any oil that made its way out there without showing up as a leak. Some would tell you to pump the zerk on the outer end full to stop the leak. It does stop the leak from what gear oil rides the shaft to the outer end, but its primary purpose is to lube that outer bearing, not to provide a grease seal against an oil leak.

Yes, he said front seal, I read it as rear -- think I have a weird form dyslexia(sp), but that means I read backwards, I do that too. Read twice answer once. I read one-half and have to answer twice. I believe felt is used more as a dust seal.
