Dose any one know off hand know what the oil pressure should be on a H. my gauge, im thinking is sticking . when i first start it up and pegges the gauge and when i shut it down the gauge stops about 1/2 way. I can tap it with a finger and it will drop the rest of the way . I do have a newer gauge im thinking about puttin on . just dont know if the newer gauge will work 0-60 psi.

I get nervous with 20 psi, wide open, particularly when the new psi was about 70-80. Low psi indicates worn crank bearings and possibly a worn oil pump -- not necessarily going to crash anytime soon. They run a long time. If it pegs the gauge you need one that will read higher. Original type IH gauges are available from several sources.

Ok thanks guys i went out and looked at the gauge again its good for 80 psi not 60 . I just wanted to find out what the H oil pressure was to be at when hot .the old one is so faded and rusty you cant tell and with the old one sticking i just want to know what it doing so i can keep an eye on things...I plowed to day in the 80* and the temp gauge only read cold just bearly into the normal range might change out the gauge as well it dont have to pass the correct police its a workin tractor

You need a new gauge for sure, then if you still lack oil pressure I would check the oil pump. If it is similar to a C the cover bends and blows out a piece of the gasket.

I would prefer a good 75 psi gauge over a 60 but you can try what you have to establish is you have low pressure or just bad gauge. Oil pump covers are pretty heavy on the H, not like the pot metal ones on smaller tractors like C so the cover doesn't usually give much trouble. But, the shafts in those pumps wear out bad and then you loose hot oil pressure at low speeds. Sticky, gummed up relief valves and weak or broken spring other problems. Wrong relief valve got circumvented into a lot of these H and M's due to parts mix up many, many years ago resultling in about 45 psi tops.
