Other than batteries witth more CCA, what canI do for my tractor to get her to crank faster. its the deisel, and a hydro, so she just spins over slow and we all know that makes hard starting. I read on Oliver forum about some one that got a gear reduction starter for his 1650. Is that some thing that is available for my tractor. It has ether assist, but I really hate using that, it just needs a little higher crank RPM

Hi Dave, I assume it is a German D-239 Diesel engine. Does it have the proper starter for the Hydro model?
From caseih parts:
1113198 MOTOR ASSY, cranking, 396574R91, 12 volt, gear drive tractors
1113201 MOTOR ASSY, cranking, 400121R92, 12 volt, hydrostatic drive tractors

The D-239 is harder starting than some of the other German Diesels. The D-179 and D-206 are the best starters.

I don't know if this works or not but a mechanic that I know that works at a large construction firm, said that they had stopped using ether several years ago and now use WD40 instead as a starting agent. He said the can of WD40 must be warm not left out in the cold.
