talking about stuff on sleeze bay

Doesn't look like a bad tractor and the price isn't bad either.

BUTT

you really have to go out of your way to butcher an alternator install like this one. (at least they didn't cut the hood) just leave it open..

makes me laugh at what some folks come up with.
Ebay SM

Tires are good, sheet metal appears straight. There was a post on here a couple of years ago showing a better way to attach the fast hitch, alternator can be replaced or use a different bracket. Hydraulics can be rearranged so that they aren't so clutzy. That is a stage 2, which is more desirable than a stage 1. Hopefully he didn't cut anything or weld anything to the chassis. So, looking at the basic tractor, it isn't bad at all, don't know about the engine and transmission.

I like that tractor ('53 Super M) but don't need one that's 3000 miles away (AZ). How can you not like the Fast Hitch, PS, and wide front? It almost looks like I built it. Wish there was a close up of the Fast Hitch. Maybe CNKS should grab it. He could be out and back in a day, make that a looong day.

I'll have to take a pic of what some PO did to the hood on my Stage II SMD- looks like they put on a genny belt that was too long, so they cut a hole in the (diesel) hood so the regulator could stick out.. Also must have broken the hood latches, so they welded on a few tabs so they could bolt it down. Did I mention the hole cut in it to get to the power steering reservior? Anybody got a decent diesel hood they don't need LOL?

Didn't know I was the devil. I'm also broke, bought a stage 2 Super M from Steel Wheel Ranch in June. Sheet metal and tires on the ebay one are a lot better than mine.

A day to Yuma, pulling a 5000 lb+ SM with a half ton pickup? Neither the pickup or me would make it back. Don't have a map, I would estimate a 1400 mile+ round trip, maybe more.

They probaly were like many working farmers I have known. They ONLY wanted to keep battery charged and were not too concerned about looks or approval. If old tractor survived 60 years on farm and came out looking that good it was not too badly abused, have seen lots of 10 year old tractors that looked worse than this one.

Wow, if you are going to pick on that tractor you have WAY too much time on your hands. Half hours work tucks that alt up under the hood.
