Thinking of building one of these things. I can't seem to go back into the forum, as I know this has been discussed before. I know I have to use the top cover from my super h onto my 300, but what do I do about the shifting forks? If you've done one, I would like to talk to you about this part. Thanks.

Hi 460anger: Shifter should easy part, I'd guess compared to hyd system? Do you have a Super H hyd control box? and the tin work might take changes. With TA it's longer hood? I have a 300 parts tractor fairly complete I bought just to have lots of extra parts for a couple 350's and another 300. I keep looking for a Super H non-running to use befor starting a SH-TA.. I am guessing having both would make it easier.. I wonder if you could just use a SH shifter? take care ag

The H, SH shift forks won't fit the slots in the 300, 350 sliding gears. Due to the shifter being located at a slightly different front to rear location in the 300 compared to a SH, rail slots on 300, 350 are off if the forks are put on a SH top. Guess what, modifacation if using a H type cover. No biggie but after some early 300 transmission housings the top cover rear bolts were 1/2 inch instead of 7/16 SH ones.

agpilot, would you be interested in selling any of the parts from your 300? if so email me please. Thanks!

Matt

Basically, you strip the sheet metal from a perfectly good 300, and replace it with sheet metal from an H. You then drill and tap the 3 holes needed for mounting the steering support post.

My uncle made one, He used the top cover from the SH and he had to weld the shift rails to the SH top cover to make it work. Sure looks nice! Good luck with your project!

I have seen a couple but they used the super h top. I'm not worried about the other stuff that's the easy part.I have a 300 coming in that has a stuck motor what do you need.
Thanks

Shifting forks are welded to the shift rails. 300 forks fit the 300 sliding gears, SH forks don't. 300 shift rails don't have the slots for popet balls and other in the correct location when used on a SH cover. When using A SH cover on a 300 trans. the 300 forks need to be welded to SH shift rails
in the correct location or 300 shift rails modified and slots cut in the correct location. SH center and 300 T/A housings are the same length.
Frame rails are longer on a 300. Use SH frame rails, radiator and shrould, , center steering and gas tank support, rear gas tank support and the SH sheet metal will work like it should. If using a Stage 2 SH hydraulic reservior the stage 2 SH tractors used a fuel tank with the outlet more to rear to clear the reservior.

So, if I understand you right... if I take my super h shifting rails and the 300 rails, measure where the popet balls and slots for gear shift lever to go and mill these into the 300 rails, put these on the super h cover, should be good to go? You can email me direct D Slater at [email protected] I'm using a early 300 transmission and TA assembly casting code is 12-0-Z Trying to keep everything with a Z code. Thanks for all the info so far.
