Gotta love ebay.... :D

i met a guy who knew a fellow that had a cousin who had a friend that met a guy that worked for i-h who swears that that was a special order only one built demonstrator. thats my story and i'm sticking to it!!!

He states that the tractor has been on the farm for more than 50 years, and it always looked like that, which is entirely possible, because 55 years ago is when the 350 and 450 Farmalls with the red and white paint scheme were introduced, and very soon after that, quite a few Hs and Ms received new paint jobs so they would resemble the new, just introduced Farmalls. I have known of several Hs and Ms just in my area that received the treatment.

I think it is safe to say that the M in the picture DID NOT come from the factory with that paint scheme.

I wish I could get my hands on an M demonstrater like that! What a tool...don't even waste your breath...
I do soil sampling all over WI and IL. You wouldn't believe how many M/H's I see with the 450 paint job. Even more of the 400 tractors get the copy cat paint.

If that's how the family bought the tractor, and he wants to restore it, then fine. But it's just ignorant to say "don't even argue" over the subject.

Personally, I think that M looks like a hot mess. I don't mind the white paint, as it adds a unique flavor to it (as long as the 'family story' comes in to play when explaining it), but those white rims look absolutely awful in my opinion.

I wish him luck selling it. But pigs will fly before he gets 5 grand for it.

"I have the tractor listed locally so the bid may end at anytime before the reserve is hit."

Just for being such a tool, someone should report him to Ebay.

There are only a limited number of reasons Ebay allows for stopping auctions early. "I sold it" is not one of them.

If it's for sale on ebay, it's for sale on ebay, period. They want their pound of flesh.

Exactly. As well as the white rims, which I do not like, I really think that the RED is not correct. Looks too dark.

Guys, The white accent paint job was a Dealer thing, Done to drum up winter business during the winter season after the 400/450 series came out. Just a way to keep the shop guys busy during a traditionally slow time!!!
Those white rims.....WELL thats Just plain Wrong!!!
LOL!!!

OBTW. I have a Old SM LP stage I, same paint job at some time or another, but its rims were silver/aluminum paint color

It may have been one of the IH/Dealer programs, but I know of several that were NOT painted by the dealer. The white rims ARE wrong. Even the 350 and 450 still had silver colored rims. In fact, I can't think of a single IH tractor that ever came with anything BUT silver colored rims.

"Like I said this tractor was purchased new from IH in late 48 early 49. The reason they painted them like this was to try and get some appeal because the model was old and John Deere had changed their design three times since this tractor came out. Their marketing scheme was to use this tractor as a demo in ag communities to get people asking around about the new tractor they saw in the neighbors field. When they went to learn about it the IH dealer could tell them it's the same old M we've always built want one? I have done a ton of research on this tractor to find out what it was. There were less than 500 done like this from 48 until the end of production. It took me a year to finally find an IH historian who knew why this tractor was painted this way. He called them a "demo model" so maybe I'm wrong in calling it a demonstrator. It never quits surprising me how many people will argue with me about the paint on this tractor. I have heard them all and like the others I'll politely tell you "first of all, your wrong!" Hope this helps."

But he has experts to back him up,so hes got to be right!

It took him "a year to finally find an IH historian" that agreed with him. Meanwhile everyone else that has seen the tractor disagrees. If you ask something enough times, eventually there will be someone that agrees, even if you think the world is flat.

I can't believe I forgot to mention the white rims...they are BAD! I agree, that certainly isn't 2150.

Where is Guy Fay when you need him.

That's almost as good as the one where the guy had an H that he swore would pull a 5 bottom plow through heavy gumbo. In the picture the poor thing was hooked to an ancient five blade one way. That's just one highlight I remember from a particularly amusing ebay listing.

Yeah, some people don't know the difference between a plow and a one-way. I'm from south Texas, we called a one-way a "tiller". Not much load for an M.

I wonder if that "IH Historian" was sitting on a barstool.

Just when did IH use old pickup tires on their narrow fronts? Has anyone told Guy Faye so he can revise his book?
