Looking for some further help on my 1460 combine. Got all the injectors out but 3 came with the brass sleeves. Now I have new sleeves and even had a tool machined to reinstall them. Anything I need to do to make sure these seat properly? Any sealant needed? Should I clean out the hole with a fine emery cloth. This is all new to me even though I have some experience working on engines. Most of my equipment is Olive green not IH red. Any help would be appreciated. Would like to combine this weekend Thanks

Just clean the bore top and bottom good. IH used to say to use loctite but I guess most don't bother with it, I do. What I do is put a dowel or rod in the end of a drill, cut a slot in it and put some emery cloth in slot. After some expermenting it does a good job. Make sure the hole into cyl in both the holes where sleeves came out and the other ones is cleaned of carbon also. A long drill bit correct size works, I always used a reamer ( with a safety clamp on it so I didn't drop it into cyl). When putting in the nozzles , leave off seal and gasket and try it in sleeve, should just drop right into bottom or you may end up with a combustion leak.

Thanks Pete, this is a lot more information than what I got from my IH dealer. Appreciate it!
One question in terms of the tool to install the brass sleeves. My machine shop make one that puts the pressure on the bottom of the sleeve and on the bevel at the top but left off anything to put some pressure on the very top edge. Do I need them to redo this so I have some pressure on the very top edge. Also, do these go in reasonably easy? The service department said I had to take the head off and take it to be pressed in at a machine shop.

Sounds like your tool will work just fine, and they go in easy, no way do you need to take head off. Make sure your tool won't contact a piston if it extends into cyl. Modern day dealerships are very reluctant to let a customer talk to someone that might know what is going on. That is one of the very reasons I quit CaseIH dealership that had been recently bought by a corporate group after my boss of 33 years retired. The way it stands right now, I can't get much help from the CaseIH dealership I order parts from ( I am retired but still work on old red to make a few extra bucks) and all those years I did all I could to give good advice to customers seeking it. One parts man is the only one I really know as we worked at same dealership previously so he is really good to deal with. If I need to borrow a tool or something I go to the John Deere dealer I last worked at. They always treated me great, of course a little red and green back and forth.
