1950 C front clamp-on rims

Finally saved up enough money to buy new front tires and rims to replace the old ones on my C. Put the right one on-no problem. Left rim won"t go on the hub. Closer inspection reveals that the "notches" cut into the hub, that keep the wheel from spinning(?), are different. The notches are not as deep on the left side and the square plate welded onto the rim won"t allow the rim to go on. Was going to grind one notch deeper but noticed that the "good" side has extra cast metal on the inside of the rim at these points but the "bad" side doesn"t. Both hubs have cast code 6787-DC but the left (bad) side has a date code of 7*17*J. That makes it 1940 correct, which could not have come on my 1950 C. The right side has no cast code. Do I have a hub from an A, H or M on the left? But, since they have the same cast code shouldn"t they be the same part? Help. Dave

I have a 48C. The rims had riveted on stops that had come off long ago. I welded some on and didn't quite get it right. A little trial fitting and using a 4" grinder on the newly welded on stops got them perfect. Both my hubs are the same. I suspect you have castings from 2 different foundaries. It's my understanding that IH didn't do their own casting until 1949 or a little later. Previous to that they contracted that work to outside venders.

I suggest you modify the rim and not the hub.

Thanks Dean. I'm shopping the bone yeard for a the "correct" hub. Haven't found one yet though. May have to modify my new rim-darn. Dave
