Original Farmall H Tire sizes

What tire sizes were offered for the Farmall H when it was new. I see that the standard size was 10-38's, but was wondering if anything bigger was optional like say 11-38's.

Yea the original size was 10x38 but I believe on super Hs it was 11x38. You can put 11 or possibly even 12 by 38 on a 10 inch rim

The standard tire sizes on the Farmall H (1952 specs) were 5:50 x 16 front and 10(11.2) x 38 rear. Optional were 6:00 x 16 front and 11(12.4) x 38 rear.

The 10 inch rims will handle 12.4-38's, you can get 13.6's (12 old designation) on it, but they really need an 11 inch rim. 12.4's (11 old designation) are entirely adequate for an H in normal use.

I have a copy of the dealer order blank for new H Farmalls in 1950 and the tire options are as follows:

Standard Front 5.50x16" 4 Ply
Optional Front 6.00x16" 4ply Add $3.50 per pr.
Optional Single Front 6.50x16" No added charge.

Standard Rear 11x38", 4 ply
Optional 10x38", 4 ply deduct $26.00 per pair.
Optional 10-38", 6 ply deduct $5.00 per pair
Optional 11x38", 6 ply add $25.00 per pair
Optional 12x38", 6 ply add $51.00 per pair

Effective March 20, 1950

Mine has 13-38(14.9-38) on 10" rims. That was how they were mounted when I got a parts tractor, so I left them on the rims and they work very well on my H. Lots of traction. The tires that were on my H when I got it were an 11.2 Power Trac tire with lots of tread on one side and a bald 13.6 on the other, which was a really ugly setup, and probably would not have worked very well.

The 1939 originals had 10x36 on split rims. Later went to 10x38 on drop-centre rims. The wheels are the same, just changed rims and tyres.

Those 14.9s probably do work, and if that's what you have, I sure wouldn't change anything, but a 13.6 or a 14.9 squeezed onto a 10" rim will not allow the full footprint of that tire to be in contact with the ground, provided the tire is inflated to the proper specification.

When they were intoduced and at least through 1940, the standard wheel was 51x6 steel with 4 inch spade lugs. Rubber was optional in sizes 8.25-36, 9.00-36 and 10.00-36.

I have an early IHC brochure, but there is no date (as usual--mfrs. seem to be cagey about this). It says, "Pneumatic tires for Farmall-H are 5.50-16 in front and 10-38 on the rear." I would guess that this brochure was published about 1941. For the M, the tires were 6.00-16 front and 11-38 rear. I believe it is true that 36" tires were offered on the early models, but don't have any information here (Nebraska tests may show the smaller sizes).
It was common to put wider tires on tractors when the originals were replaced, so what you see on these tractors today may not correspond with the original sizes. Also, I think the recent sizing numbers don't correspond exactly with the widths of the older tires.
