Price of straw at Home Depot

I went over to Home Depot last night to get some tulip bulbs and they had a Halloween display with pumpkins and straw for sale. The bales of straw were about 2ft long by a foot deep and wide, maybe weighted 5 pounds and they were getting $6.98 per bale. I'd be excited about that price on a regular bale size.

I saw a guy at our tractor show that made a hay press and was using a bail of straw to make little bales like 6" long and 3 X 3" wide.Ran it with an old hit and miss motor. He would tie with wire and sell them for $1 each or 6 for $5. I asked if he could get 100 little bales out of a big bale. He laughed and said almost.

Their profit margins are probably the same on the tulip bulbs!

What's even funnier is, the same sot that would pay $7 for a mini-bale of straw tries to haggle my Dad down 50 cents on a 50lb bale! The idiot buys ONE bale of straw and tries to haggle the price from $3 to $2.50!

pretty amazing what people will pay for decorations. i had a lady want to by corn stalks, no ears, she was paying 6 dollars for a dozen stalks. ear corn for squirrel food sells for 5.99 for 8 ears. i may get a picker at those prices!!!

The local Hobby Lobby here in central Texas sells mini bales of straw, about 6x8in, maybe a foot long for close to $10. Nobody ever said Hobby Lobby was a cheap place to shop.
