int 424 two stage clutch repair

INT 424

I have a 424 tractor with a 2 stage clutch. The clutch throw out levers are worn out but the bearing appears to be ok. Can the levers be replaced through the inspection hole on the bottom without splitting the tractor and pulling the entire clutch assembly out? Are the adjusting bolts long enough to releave the spring pressure without threading out. Also does anyone have and idea on what would cause the second stage clutch to be extremely hard to push. Don't know if it could be from the worn clutch levers.

Hi, are the pressure plate levers worn out where the clutch release bearing contacts them or are they worn where the adjustment bolt is?

We had a 434(same clutch as 424) and the levers were worn where the head of the adjusting bolts contacted the levers. Solved the problem by turning the adjusting bolts 1/4 turn so the worn parts no longer mated.

The ends of the fingers where the throw out bearing contacts them. The bearing seams to turn ok. I looked at it from the inspection plate hole under the bottom of the tractor. I will need to take another look at it once it quits raining. The lever I saw appeared to have the flat surface worn off and the throw out bearing was running against the perpendicular sides of the fingers. If you can picture it, the end of the finger looks like a U. I assume the fingers should look like most other clutch fingers and have a flat surface to the end of the finger.
