Re: Farmall 140 Hydraulic pump

Do they make a rebuild kit for a hydraulic pump & is it worth rebuilding versus buying another one. Also would like to know if high trans IH oil is a must or can another good grade hydraulic oil work?

All the kit consists of is seals, gaskets, etc, the pump is usually considered not rebuildable. Your problem could be in the reservoir. Generic hytran is ok, SAE 10 could work, as it was recommended before the original Touch Control appeared. I have heard of people using SAE 30. Out of desperation, it probably won't hurt anything. Hytran is about the same weight as SAE 10 -- I think Shell has one that is about SAE 20.

The end play is the only thing that can be machined. New gears are difficult to find, and if they have worn into the housing the pump is toast.
New bushings (if it has them) are often not available unless made to fit locally. I would try a mixture of heavier oil and the oil in it now, but too heavy and the system becomes impossible in the winter. Jim
