460 Utility Carb woes

My 460 utility isn"t leaving fuel in the carb when it shuts off. I need to use starter fluid everytime I start it, then once started it runs ok.

Is there a certain adjustment on the carb for this?

needle stuck or something like that...

Thanks

Carbs are the same, there is only one. Sounds like your float is sticking or there is a problem with the needle and seat, dirt or something else causing it to not seat properly. You can try disassembling and use the same parts, but, I would put a complete CaseIH kit in it ($$). Did mine a few years ago, it does not leak with the fuel left on, although it is off when I am not using it for a period of time.

I would check the flow of fuel from the tank. CNKS has good points. You can click the link for the info from the 460 560 Preventative Maintenance Manual; hope this help. Post your problems/success as it may help others. Good luck.

Are you shutting it off the the key and it quits right when you shut it off? The bowl should be full then. How much time evolves till you try to restart it, a day or week? Are you pulling the bottom plug in the carb to tell that it is empty?

Those new viton tipped needles do stick but if it runs allright after it starts, I'd think about something else.

Where is the fuel going to? The only way gasoline can escape from the carb while the engine is off is by leaking out, and there is only 3 places where this can happen. One is through a crack in the fuel bowl (not likely) next would be the fuel bowl drain plug(visible) and the third suspect is the packing in the high speed idle adjustment screw, which is also visible. If the tractor runs just fine after you get it started, you do not need a complete rebuild kit.

Sorry to not have gotten back to you guys. I travel during the week and haven't had a chance to look at it since I posted the question.

I will once I look at it.

Thanks
