ok, i have a new to me 49 cub, put a 42 inch belly mower on it i got used, cleaned it up painted it, got the pulleys all lined up finally and man does it mow nice, happy as a duck in a pond, now on to the next thing, when raised, the hydraulic system rapidly "hunts" up and down, the service manuel says this is due to a cut or broken o ring in the touch control system, [ after being refurbished, this tractor sat in a shed for years] this site aparently only sells the whole unit for 500 bucks, tm's site sells the kits, but in reading the info there are 2, do i need to order the touch control pump set or the cylinder block set, or both? to fix it, im confused , also have no problem with converting back to the hand lift set up if anybody has one

pump kit sounds like it is for hydralic pump located at front of engine. if you order the unit kit have block p/n cast on side of unit block. several different were made over the years. good luck, d.coleman

1st does it hunt if yopu pull the lever back about 1 inch after raising it all the way up?
you need the cylinder block set
you need the serial no to order it
you need to clean, clean and clean
take your time and keep it clean

You need the kit for the hydraulic block in back.

There's nothing wrong with the pump. Think about it: It's lifting the mower, right? That means it's got plenty of pressure.

The pump has NONE of the control functions inside it. The block does.

It's not that difficult to rebuild the hydraulic block. You just need to keep the parts CLEAN while you're doing it, take your time, and keep track of how things came apart so you can put them back together.

thanks again guys i'll order the block kit, evilboweivel, the thing hunts unless the mower is all the way down, , when down the mower is still off the ground about a inch i shortchained it so as to not plow ruts in the grass with the mower skids, i didnt notice it doing that with the front snow plow, but it did it slightly with the rear moldboard plow installed, both came with the tractor and by the original manuels which came with it too, those were bought new with the tractor , kind of neat for a 60+ year old tractor to have 2 of its original impliments still with it , after being sold to at least 2 other owners, im the 3rd
