Just got the 240 home (pics)

Here are some pictures of the farmall 240 my dad bought at an auction. Also bought the mower for $90. Was recently overhauled, runs good, good hydrolics, new tires. Is this the factory 2pt. fast hitch with an add-on for the 3pt? My 340U has the fast hitch which looks similar as far as the lift part but the arms are different. Also, where were the serial # tags located on these? I looked all around the clutch housing and I think the tag must have been removed. The block # is around 81,000. Does anyone know what causes the pto shaft to not engage and just spin freely when tractor is not running? I think the pto is the only thing that doesn't work on this tractor. Thanks.

That PTO problem you have you would have to investigate further. Does the engagement lever work/move all the way. Otherwise remove PTO assy from the back and see what is wrong. Use a manual. I am sure others can give you more detailed info. It is basically the same system as the Model "C" and super"C" and 200 230 etc.
Looks like a nice 3pt addition, not factory.

That is the factory installed three-point Fast Hitch. It is essentially the same hitch as the two-point except the two Fast Hitch sockets were replaced by the yoke assembly that attaches to the three pins on the implement.

The arms are spaced for cat 1 equipment. It works fine for most 3-point stuff.

The 240 tricycle we had had two front tires, angled outward at top & inward at the ground. It would make the cutest clay ball during the winter delivering hay in the mud !

Ours also had two levers on the outboard side of the dash, one for left aux hydraulic cylinder and one or right. We would attach a cylinder to a bracket (on each side) and it would lift the front cultivator frames (similar to how a C or SC lift with rockshaft and rods)

Thats the factory three pt. PTO should turn over until its enguaged. When you put it into gear then it will not turn with engine off. Look on the bell housing for the tag it should be there or four hole where it was.

redFarmallboy; Thanks for sharing those GREAT photos; someone knows something about photography. I like the low light and the tractor shot at an angle, gives that second side and additional interest. gene is correct about location; towards the rear end of the tractor from your oil filter mount-as shown on the photo. I don't know your purchase price but, the rubber alone w/tubes and mounting will see $1000 go bye-bye. Enjoy it!
