Need help protecting the metal emblems on farmall 100 hoo...

I"ve got a Farmall 100 tractor that has the original metal emblems on the hood. The emblems are in perfect shape, so I really don"t need to replace them.

How can I paint the hood while protecting the emblems?? There is no way to mask them off with tape because these are the emblems that are cut out the shape of the letters/numbers. They aren"t the rectangular metal ones.

I"m sure you guys have came across this before and know the best way to take them off, mask them, or whatever. Thanks in advance.

What I did on the 350 im doin is get a claw hammer and lightly tap the tabs on back of the emblems. They should just pop right out. be careful not hit them to hard and break the litle lock in deals though

Just tap the part of the emblem support "stick" and the clips will slide off?? To me, it seems as if it would break the clip or the emblem support arm.

the pins will slide out of the clips that hold them. tap each pin out a little at a time, in sequence. if the clip should break, most hardware stores have round clips for a lot less than cih charges for the original clips.

No they're alot sturdier than they look. If they do break use some jb weld. A few of the abs had broken off before I took them off so I used jb weld to put them back on and it works great. but I really doubt that you will

Ok. so the small round clips can be found at hardware stores/lowe's if I were to break them? Thanks so much guys!!

I just hope I don't break one of the pins that hold em on! There is the "Farmall", "McCormick", and the "100" logo on each side; so I've got a lot of tedious work ahead of me. haha

Try to gently pry the clips off. New clips are readily available. Be careful with the pins they fit on.

I'd sacrifice all of the clips. They're not expensive, but emblems are. Use a dremel tool w/a cut off disc. Cut the clips and remove them. Then use new ones to reinstall. Many hardware stores/farm stores have "servolite" centers... a bunch of little boxes in trays that have all kinds of odd ball connectors, corks. springs, etc.
