706G dump valve adj.

My loader tractor is acting up on me. Seems like it has a two stage clutch with TA in hi. I have adjusted the free travel and trans brake per Tractor Vet. When trying to adjust the dump valve holding the clutch peddle 1 in off the platform I run out of threads on the bolt before the telite goes off on. Any ideas.
Thanks
Nate

You may need a longer bolt and if it has the spring on the bolt as earlier models did, throw it away. What you are trying to achieve is that the dump valve opens when clutch is depressed so light comes on, and when you engage clutch the light should go out just before main clutch starts to pull tractor. This amounts to filling the direct drive hydraulic clutch pack ahead of main clutch engaging. The double shift is caused by the main clutch engagineg before the direct drive clutch. Should be easy to get it correct by watching the red light. Another thing, I hate those flashing red lights, much prefer steady light as some times it is in between flashes and you can interpet that as light being off. I always change the bulbs to non flashing. Just my take .

My light doesn't flash so that's the right one. My bolt has the spring. Where would I find the correct bolt, salvage yard?

I have an 806D that is having similiar problems. It pulls fine under a normal load, then every once in a while it acts as though the main clutch slips for just a few seconds then it may be fine for 1/2 hr or so. I really notice it when I am turning to the left while using the brake to help turn. It's like you are riding the clutch to make it slip. The adjuster on my 806 has the spring on it. Could this be causing my problem? I adjusted everything to the book and used tactor vet's method to set the dump valve but it still does it. Thanks, Dan

Dan, your TA is in the process of going bad on you. There is no fix other than to replace it. However you have many more hours of operation before it totally goes bad, so you can start saving now for the replacement.

(quoted from post at 08:55:46 09/24/10) I was kind of afraid of that starting to happen. Dan

You have the classic problems caused by loss of flow/pressure from the MCV pump.

Unless the tractor stops completely and not just act like a slipping clutch, the problem you are having is not caused by the TA. Not having the problem when the TA is in the low side will confirm this. If that is the case a new TA will act the same.

When the pump gets weak it can no longer provide enough flow at higher steering pressures to maintain 3 GPM to the control circuit for brakes and TA. When the flow drops enough so that the pressure cannot be maintained in the direct drive clutch of the TA, the clutch will slip and the TA will pull on the low side clutch. This is the loss of speed that you are noticing.

Continuing to use the tractor will cause excessive wear in the direct drive clutch pack while it is slipping. More critical is something that you do not notice. Whenever the MCV pump cannot provide flow in excess of 3GPM there is no oil flow through the oil cooler. The oil returning from the oil cooler is used to lubricate the range transmission, bull pinion bearings, and the ring gear and pinion.
