International IA colors

I got a question about my 1944 International Industrial A tractor. Has Foot throttle and square tube front and heavy bolster. Has a IH mid mount heavy built belt driven, pto shaft drive sickle. Did they offer Yellow from the factory? (mine is yellow with red under) Have a book on cubs that show Cubs in Hwy Orange. Did they ever offer Orange to the Industrial A? I ve also heard that the Farmall IA was different from the International IA. thank guys.

The factory would probably paint it any color the owner wanted. Some were probably painted
olive drab green for the military. Here's a Fairway 12 painted yellow and it had tags on it that looked used by the military. The farmer in Ohio painted it yellow since he found that color too. Hal

There were two A's and Super A's. International and Farmall. There is no such thing as a Farmall industrial. Most of the standard features on the International were available on the Farmall, though. As to the color, it depends on who ordered it. Most state highway depts ordered or repainted the International the color of their other equipment. Yellow or orange may have been the most popular, but by no means the only colors.

I have no data to back it up. From observation, I'd say that most state departments got their tractors painted in the state colors or repainted them to state colors upon delivery. Most local departments probably stuck with red. (The alternate bid for red was always cheaper!) Second most popular was probably orange.

Yellow wasn't that popular until maybe the mid-50s or later. A lot of them got repainted yellow if they still belonged to a highway department.

I'm not sure about the IA, but on the larger industrial models, I-4, I-6, and I-9 size tractors, IHC would paint the tractors either red or orange at the factory at no charge. They could be painted any other color the customer wanted, including yellow, for a slight additional charge. Industrial yellow did not become a federal standard for industrial untill sometime in the 50's. Prior to that, orange was the most common industrial color, although it was not a federal standard. This also applied to school bus colors as well. When I was young, all school busses in our state were orange rather than yellow.
