303 C221 engine

Went to rebuild a 460 with a c221 engine. when some thing did not look right pulled the head no sleeves. Was told its a combine engine. Are the connecting rods the same? Are the pistons the same? Are the heads the same? Camshaft the same? Is the carb the same Governor? manifolds? distrubtor? What all interchanges with a c221 sleeved engine block. Thanks!!!

I made that swap on a 460 about 20 years ago. The engine I used came from a 315 combine. If you have trouble getting oversize pistons you can have the block bored to accept the tractor sleeves.

Everything except the cylinder sleeves will interchange. The blocks are the same except for the lack of sleeves and the rear mounting holes are not threaded, you need to use a nut on the engine side. If you were to buy a new service engine or a new block, the sleeveless block is what you would have gotten from IH. The carburetor may have been different if the air intake pipe came in from the front of the engine rather than the rear. The exhaust manifolds are different on the combine. The combine used a different oil pan. The front cover and plate are different. They mount differently and the combine had a hydraulic pump mounted to drive of the front gear set.
