C oil pressure

Bought a c farmall took the oil pan off and found the oil pump was drty and half plugged and took it off and cleaned and changed the oil and oilf filter ran for a little bit and it was half way on tne gauge and then it went to almost to the red. It is starting to smoke and oil is leaking aroung the head gasket.
 
If the pan was gooped up and cruddy, and the oil pump was as bad, the rest of the engine was probably the same. putting new oil in it, and running it for a while probably broke dramatic amounts of additional crud loose. I would drain and refill the oil again with a new filter. I would use 15-40 oil in the engine to boost pressure a little. If it still has poor pressure, and still smokes, it is probably due for a set of sleeves and crank bearings, along with valve guide repair and valve seating. Probably less than 1200 id you do the work.
Pulling the pan and checking the oil pump cover for flatness and end play of the gears (.001 to .0005") using thin gaskets to set clearance can help. Leaks are either lived with or fixed. It would take extreme oil pressure to rupture the head gasket. it was probably leaking already. Jim
 
Yup likely a lot of crud in everything, including up on top of the head around the valves and such. Could be keeping oil from draining back down well.

Not hard to pull the head and clean things up. Mine was so gunked up it had the valves closing so slow the pushrods fell out from under the rocker arms.
 
Remembe its only 60yrs old and you have no way knowing when or if it was repaired. If the smpke and leak is a big deal you need to remove engine and rebuild. Sleeves and pistons with engine bearings will cost 400. Getting crank ground around100 or so and mite cost 200 or so to have new valves guides asnd seats installed butthen you have a new engine. A little smove and leak doesent mean it cant do lots of work
