There is a little circle ring on a small rod located along the right hand side of the transmission. It has a small spring around the rod. Any ideas what this would be used for ?
I m a new tractor person. Thanks

As noted, hard telling without pictures, better description of location. For instance on old H,Ms- toward the front of transmission area that might be the brake lock latch rod. Toward the rear- maybe the PTO operating rod. Some what inward of right front- on some British type models was a differential lock rod or lever instead of foot latch. RN

Brake pedal lock rod. To park tractor: Latch pedals together and push them down , pull up on lock rod, it will engage a lock pawl with the ratchet on the left brake pedal. The brake pedals will lock in this position . To release the brakes, simply press the brake pedals further down and the lock will automatically fall back into the disengaged position.

I suggest that you get an Operator's Manual for your 504. Copies available here at ytmag. Left top of page under Marketplace . Will worth the $$$$

I have a 504 and it is a brake lock. Mine doesnt work the best so you may need to adjust it to get the best function because it is very handy when you are on any grade and need to get off the tractor. It has happened to me a thousand times in my field.

Thanks Guys, I have ordered a manual set from out in Oregon. That should help me later, but this little ring handle had me baffled.
