I have a 53 super c with fast hitch hydraulics. The touch control rockarms operate smoothly and quickly at engine idle. The fast hitch comes up quickly at engine idle, but half the speed or slower going down and puts a load on the engine almost stalling it. All I have done so far is change the hydraulic fluid, which looked clean. Any advice? Thank you.

I would start by pulling the screen out of the TC unit. A 4 bolt plate must be removed to access the screen. It is located on the left side of the unit, you may have a wire coming out of it for the temp gauge or not. Start with cleaning that out well and try it again. Come back here with the results.

The fluid to operate hitch goes through a check valve block and it requires pressue to open the check valve for lowering. The amount of pressure may be excessive due to the check valve not opening far enough on the lowering cycle or then again it may be normal. I can't tell from here. You could take the check valve block apart and examine the parts for wear or possibly cut o-rings or even leave the check ball out to see if it operates differently. Hitch will leak down without check valve in place.

is the check valve in the bypass block mounted in front of seat/tool box. If so do I remove bolts on either end of block? And again if so do I need to relieve pressure somewhere first, or just remove bolt. The reason I ask is from bad experience removing drain plug from touch control unit. Plug and fluid shot across my shop under great pressure! What a mess. Thank you for the help.
