Super A transmission

I'm restoring my Super A. The transmission is really noisy especially in 4th gear. All fluid levels are where they need to be. Is this normal or could this be a problem and what it could be? The other gears have some noise but not too bad. I'm a decent shade tree machanic so I would like to know if these transmissions are easy to rework and if the parts and seals are easy to find and if they are expensive. I have already rebuilt the engine and evry thing works great. Any help would be great.

Noise is usually caused by pitting on the gear teeth or pitted bearings. Not really a big deal as long as you have good oil in it. You could also try adding some Lucas oil stabilizer to it. about a 50-50 mix. That might quieten it down a little. The parts, from what I have needed, have been avail at Case/IHC. (misc bearing and seals etc.) A tip that was passed to me was to fill the transmission up with diesel fuel or kerosene and drive it for about half hour or so. This will wash it real good. Drain it and fill'er back up with new heavy oil such as 80w-90 or some ?90-120? and some Lucas.

When replacing the front seal in the tranny i found out replacing that gear if it has any play sure will quiet them down some.

I do not know. I'm going to start taking it apart to see where my issues are. Acording to the parts manual ther is approx. 12 bearings. I have already replace 2 bearings on the left drive. The bearings were very bad. I suspect that this may be the problem with most of the bearings.I'm hoping that the gears are not too bad.

Thanks for the info. I plan on cleanig every thing rel good and use new lub. I will use your suggestion about adding Lucas.
