Delco p/n 1111411 distributor on H Farmall

I"m wondering if there are centrifugal spark advance springs on this distributor similar to the ones on the IH distributor. I"m having a real problem getting the engine to run properly at all speeds, it runs rich at half throttle or so and doesn"t idle smoothly either. Runs good wide open or when pulling. Engine was just completely overhauled and carburetor was gone thru too. Any ideas?

The Delco does have advance components. They can be checked (to a limited degree) by gently turning the rotor by hand, in the same direction as rotation, it should turn a few degrees against spring pressure, then when released it should spring back.
Rich mixtures almost always are carburation, or air supply. Set the static timing to TDC. and check it with a timing light to assess the advance. Jim

Thanks for the quick answer. I know the air supply is good, cleaned the air cleaner and tube completely out. I'll disassemble the distributor as I'm guessing the shaft is rusted together or the springs are broken. I couldn't get any play in it when I tried to turn the rotor.

BEFORE disassembling anything, WHY not whip out a timing light and confirm whether or not the centrifugal advance is working?

(quoted from post at 18:34:54 09/19/10) I tried it but can't see the timing marks behind the lower radiator hose/tube.

You don't need to actually time anything precisely, so a chalk mark anywhere on the rim of the crank pulley will do. It should move up and down with engine rpm's under the timing light. That will tell you the advance has some function or not.
