I drained the transmission on my 58 340, then removed the rear plug and a whole lot more came out! Are there two fill hole on this gas c 135 tractor?

Transmission, hydraulics, and rear end are in the same housing. Not that familiar with the 340, but you probably pulled the plug under the trans, then the one in the rear which is lower.

On my first Farmall 340 hydraulic fluid change...well...I THOUGHT I had enough drain pans within easy reach; nuf said. That large rear plug, once unplugged, really drains. If you pry just a little on the rear hydraulic filter housing, you don"t have to mess w/disconnecting the left brake pedal also; I know that now. Just one hydraulic fill hole; square recessed area in round plug next to the shift lever. The check plug is below your left running board, pull down on the clutch pedal slightly and you should see it. Clean and blow the crap out of the area before removal to keep your fill hole clean. Good luck w/your project. Gotta love those Farmall 340"s.

It should take 10 gallons of hy-tran fluid to fill it. They have updated the filter if you have the one with two small ones to one larger one. You can get them at Napa. Make sure you note how everything comes apart. Good Luck PUTTER
