Farmall M muffler

Hi,

I am looking to replace the muffler on my Farmall M with a straight pipe. Initially I just want to put an exhaust pipe on it and am not looking for anything expensive. Any suggestions?

I have looked at automotive stores. I see the ID of the inlet for the exhaust should be 2 3/8 inches, but I can't find a stock pipe that has that ID. everything is either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2. Any ideas on how to come up with a temporary stack?

Thanks!

Chuck

have your local muffler shop make a pipe for you. they can swell the end to fit the size you need.

I use a 2 1/2 inch and take about a 4 inch long piece and cut about a 1/2 inch slice out of it to make a sleeve, then just clamp it on.

I did about the same thing. I took a 2.25" pipe and cut two slits that were about two inches long in the end to give it someplace to expand. It has worked fine for 5 years so far.
Like they said, you could take it to an exhaust shop and have them open it up "the right way."

So just making sure I am not stupid here...when the ID is 2 3/8 inches, you're talking about using a 2 1/4 and expanding it, not a 2 1/2, right?

Correct, I stated the wrong size. I will go edit the original post. You would have to swedge (sp) a 2.5" pipe down to 2.375. That can be done as well. Mine must have been 2.25" pipe that I used on my SMTA. It was the old chrome tip from my buddies 89 F-150 :) Classy!

am surprised that a paramedic doesn't have a higher regard for his hearing than that........someday, when your response to every statement is "what', you will.
