Sorry, I just couldn"t resist the HELP subject line. I am nosey - hey, might as well be honest - as to what you may have decided on or are researching regarding a supplied air system? Have you ever heard of an Emerson system. I peeked on Goodsearch and didn"t find anything. The Turbine Products Breathecool system seems like a good one. What say you? Thanks in advance for your input.

Happy to share. I looked at two units on-line. The first unit (name escapes me) had a dated website ("new for 2006") which did not inspire confidence. Looked like a new unit but with your health hanging in the balance you want somebody who has been in it a while. CNKS had said he used a Hobby Air system and liked it. His advice in other areas of painting has been reliable so I looked hard at that brand and eventually bought one. It is a nice little unit. In addition to painting, think of the other uses around your home/farm and it is just not that much to spend. Places with hazardous dust or particles or where a mask is uncomfortable. I will also be using this when cleaning dusty areas or putting in insulation etc. I am happy with my choice.
Clean fresh air here

Dave, Do you recommend the Hobby Air 40 or 80 with the half mask, full mask, or supplied air hood. Curious if the hood will seal as well as either type of mask. Thanks for your input...Ed

Dave H(MI); thanks for your research and yup, I think CNKS knows of what he speaks. I also wonder what specific unit you got. I have a Schram engine compressor that hasn"t ran in ~2 years and I would also like to use it w/the sandblaster-I"ve got ~ a ton of glass beads on a rotting pallet. The temperatures will soon be to chilly for painting so I"d better get ordering. Me thinks I"d like more than 40 feet so am looking for your wisdom. Was the below link you had posted a couple weeks back and had looked at? Take care.
Breathecool II

That is the other one I looked at. It was cheaper but I just liked the hobby air unit better. More people sell them and the company appears better established. I have the 40' hose. Depending on wind direction outdoors I can run it out windows on either side of the shop and should get good safe air.

I have the 40 as that is enough hose for my needs. On recommendation, I also bought the full hood and lens protectors for it. Nice sturdy hood with belt support for hose. Quite comfortable compared to masks. Won't be painting for a week or so and haven't put any of it to practice. Not sure how the hood would seal, if it seals. There is a lot of air pouring into it so the positive pressure keeps the environmental air from coming back in. I'll be testing it out with something non-toxic before I start spraying.

Ah, so you got both a mask and hood. I just phoned and ordered the model 80 w/the hood instead of the half mask, along w/lens protectors. So...I won't be waiting for the ferry in Manitowoc. Thanks again for your replies.

The hood doesn't seal--any leaking air is forced out, no other air gets in. A disadvantage of Hobby Air is that the air gets warm. Not a problem for painting because painting time is relatively short. Might be a problem if you have a high capacity sand blaster. Mine is small and I spend more time filling it than I do blasting. The Tyvec hood is fine for blasting. I put an extension the blaster wand that keeps me out of the way of the sand. No problems in 8 years, off and on, with the unit I have. Except that the hose is rather cumbersome. The air compressor hose and the supplied air hose tend to get tangled up.
