Woods belly mower?

I'm trying to get rid of my 5 ft woods belly mower off a IH C. Many people ask me if it will fit on a farmall A? I tell them I don't know if the rotation is right, the brackets can be adapted, and the belt size will work. My mower operates off the small shaft above the PTO and it is a right hand discharge. I converted my C over to a 6 ft mower off an H and it is a left hand discharge and uses a large pulley off the PTO.

Can my 5 ft mower be used on an A? If so, is it worth it?

Thanks,
George

The deck will work on any tractor but the mounts are different. The mount for an A is a big assy that mounts between the finals. You could have used the mounts for the C on the new mower as the deck would have fastenend. All you have to do to change the rotation is route the belt assording. This is for all the Woods mowers.

I would think you'd have to get all new brackets and belts, which would be cost prohibitive.

I have a bit of a selfish question though, which is how does that C do with the 6 foot belly mower compared to the 5 footer? Everyone tells me to get a 5 foot mower for my C, but then I'd have to move the wheels in and lose a foot on each pass. If the 6 footer works well, that's what I'd like to go with. You thoughts or experience?

i think the 5 ft woods would be a better choice too on the c. i have a 59 woods on my b, (has big pistons and sleeves in it) and it handles the 59 nice. the 6 ft works better on an h. if you are not in heavy grass, the 6 ft may be ok for the c, but it will give it a work out.

Wilks,
The wheelbase of a C with the wheels pushed in is about 5 ft 6 in. I cut about 6 inches off each axle so I wouldn't get into trees when mowing. The 5 ft mower was off set to the right and the left wheel would mash the uncut grass or you would have to mow so the freshly cut grass is always to your left.

The 6 ft mower I got off an IH H was also off set to the right and that was a problem because my trailer is only 6 ft and 3 inches wide and it wouldn't fit. I worked for about a week experimenting before I got the deck centered under the tractor. If you like, I'll take pics to show what I had to do.

There is still a problem. The 6 ft mower has skies on both sides that I have to remove to put it on my trailer.

As for the tractor handling it, I cut in first gear and have no problems. Plenty of hp. Each spring I roll and cut at the same time. It handles it just fine. My roller is 4640 pounds empty.

I also have a Jubilee with a woods RM660. When you turn left around a tree, the rear mount goes right and you have more to trim. I like the belly mount better for that reason. Also the rm660 concentrates the grass out one side. Belly mower gets rid of the grass out the back too.

The RM660 does a great job of taking leafs and throwing them to the neighbors yard.

direct from woods.that mower deck would work BBBUT the rear bracket system will not and the corect bracket cost $400+ and change, belt ect,I have a 6 ft forsale asking $750 that came off a super A

Now that just figures. I have a little C I wouldn't mind having a belly mower for. None of them around here are for C's that i've seen just A's and B's.

I know of a man who called me from Canada and one from Ohio who wants a mower to an A and I have a mower to a C. Mine is listed on the YT Photo add. The man from Canada wants to drive to Indiana. Go figure, he wants one really bad.

On YT photo add a man from ohio is selling his A with mower for $750. A is in bad shape.

Place a want add on this sight. There are many mowers for a C. Some wanting big bucks. The engine on my C is healthy, doesn't use oil, and I love my 6 ft mower. Remember an IH H mower will bolt right up to a C. You will have to remove the hitch and you will lose your pto, because the pto gets an 18 inch pulley.

I'm happy I changed over to a 6 ft.

Been thinking that a 20 hp briggs mounted to my 5 ft would make a great pull behind mower. Would have to put casters on the back of mower and a hitch. That way, I could cut 11 ft at a time. Two round trips and I would be done mowing.

Get the six foot you have enough power remember its a finish mower and not a bush hog. The newer mounts use the belt pulley and you dont need the huge heavy thing they esed to use. I do have the mounts for a C that uses the belt pulley for driving the deck.

You need to tell him the deck will work but he needs the mount for the A and its big and heavy and would cost a bunch

I have a question about my Woods 5 foot mower (Model 59-HB-1) Does anyone know the part number for the belt? It is very long because my mower has 3 blades. Does anyone know the part number or the length of belt I should buy?

I inherited this mower(and the International B) from my dad nearly 25 years ago and it has worked like a charm......but now I need a new belt.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
