D335 vs D350

I need to replace the rear main bearing in my WD-9. The parts guy
said the number off the bearing does not register, and wants to
know if it is a 335 or 350. How can I tell? I have the oil pan off. Is it
as simple as measuring the sleeves, or is their something to look
for on the crank?
Thanks

it should be the 335, supers have the 350cid. yes you can measure the sleeve to find out. give him the serial # also. biggest reason he told you that is because most parts are obsolete.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that the bearing has a date of 1964, so I know it has been overhauled. That is the biggest reason for asking, because I did not know if they just put in bigger sleeves and pistons, which does not affect the main bearing......... unless they had to put in a new crank, and then put in the supper wd crank. Can you tell the difference from a balanced crank to a regular. The end of the crank has a groove cut into it, like a spiral, where the seal goes. Was this to help keep oil away?
Thanks

Earlier D335 cranks had the groove along with a felt seal. Not sure when they changed over. Many people have learned the hard way when replacing with a regular seal and it leaks like a sieve.

Of course 335 = 4.4 inch, 350 = 4.5 inch. In most cases a casting code on block will date it and tell what it was originally.

No. Hence the leak reference. :)

However, felt replacement is easy to do. McMaster Carr or others stock the stuff.

Hopefully it still has the felt type retainer as well.
