1947 Farmall C

Ok I know that the C's started with the 48 model year. I just aquired an early 48 C will all November of 1947 "Q" date codes. The pto had a 1954 "X" date code. Obviously that had been replaced. The only R code I could find was on the touch control and it was March of 48. I suspect that is not the original as it is 5 months later that the rest of the date codes. The fast hitch is off of a 1953 Super C complete with the 6 digit serial # still on the tool box. The original seat was found in the scrap pile and it still has the serial # plate on it. I believe it is the correct seat as the serial # on the motor and seat are 13#'s apart. The only thing I couldn't find in the archive is the "USRC" cast into the front left corner of the operators platform just before the part #. Any body have any idea what that's about?

It could be that that tractor did not come with touch control hydraulics, as I believe it was an option. May have been added either from dealer, or a salvage tractor. However I have never seen a C without the touch control hydraulics. Others can correct me if I am wrong, but I think I read that in one of Guy Fay's book.

I thought a big selling point for the c was that it had touch control. But, I think that IH would build anything you wanted, so very possible that it was "TC-delete".

A 5 month spread in date codes is not unusual. The tractor probably wasn't built until after march. If we had the original serial number we would know, but evidently that is some sort of secret.

It is a secret till after I get my free gas cap.

A few of the no good so&so's down here will collect serial #'s and order gas caps for tractors that are not theirs.

Dean, Jim Becker can be very helpful in determining when your tractor was made but not when vital information is a secret. He may have disassociated himself with this thread now with the insults but all he would need is the first three digits like 123XX to determine when your tractor was assembled. Jim has a lot of information to assimilate on letter series tractor production dates that is difficult for us to obtain. He is a very valuable assest to our IH community for historical information. He can probably date your tractor to at least within the month with the three digits noted above if you are worried about someone getting a free gas cap. You should read some of Jim's IHC articles in the bi-monthly Red Power Magazine as he has some very interesting historical data to share in every issue to my knowledge. Sometimes good information is more valuable then a gas cap and then maybe it isn't in your case. Good luck with your tractor, Hal..

What insults? If your refering to the no goods down here comment," down here" is Houston. The original question still stands. What does the "USRC" stand for?

Dean, you have just run into one of the touchy types. He may have gotten a free gas cap that way.I gave up the 9n forum after one fellow went nuts when I said Dufus may have messed up his ammeter.Sounded like someone tried to make an induction meter out of a terminal type by clamping a wire under a metal plate,Didnt work.I learned to mow on a Farmall C around 1960.
