Cylinder head repair - help

Cylinder head on my 49 M is leaking - leak (saw this while testing) is from corner of #4 chamber, about 3/4 inch up from gasket surface. How can this be fixed? Local shops don"t want to try. Does anybody know someplace that does this kind of work (correctly)? I"m in Wyoming, and getting frustrated.

Thanks

There are several ways to repair it. All technical and can work well. My first choice is welding. It requires serious cleaning an preparation, then heating to accommodate the weld heat. staged cooling, and normalizing of the welded area.
The second is pinning it uses overlapping tapered pins or threaded tapered shank screws to repair the crack, then they are finished smooth to the combustion chamber. The head repair can cost more than a replacement head, and is often done only when the head or block is very expensive or one of a kind. I would look for another head, or get 4 or 5 estimates on the repair. Jim

Jerry, where in WY are you? Midwest welding and machine in Casper can fix it. That is an everyday situation for them. Great people & first class work. They don't do any thing half a$$ed. You will pay accordingly.

Williams in Nevada,Ia can make it like new again he has a huge shop and thats what they do it will be under a warranty when done.

gene bender - thanks for your reply. I live in the next town over from Williams in Nevada (now called Midwest Cylinder) and I just took my "H" head over to them to check over and rehab. Seems like a top-notch shop. Funny thing- Rich looked it over and figured out my head had been previoulsy repaired by them (under previous owner). I asked him to find out when that occurred.

Anyway, thank you for alerting me to something "in my backyard"! (I hadn't known it even existed!)
