Sealant for Hydraulic Leaks

Does anyone know what would work to seal a hydraulic oil leak ( no pressure)where I have a small leaking gasket, lets say around the PTO housing. Some type of silicone or ???

to do it properly you need to remove the housing and replace gskt. then use some hi-tac spray on it and put it together. just gobbing something on the outside is not the answer.

Have you looked at RTV? Think that is what it is called. A silicone sealant for gaskets. I used it on no pressure hydraulic gaskets on a Ford I did last year.

Ya know, it never occurred to me that he was looking to caulk it like a window! I just assumed he was putting in the gasket and wanted to make sure he had a good seal.

Back in the day of the 06 to 86 series tractors, they were prone to leak at the top main cover just above the three point 3rd arm cover bracket. Had a customer who polished his tractor metriciously, but would not spend a dime for any repairs. I told him I would need to pull rear cover to replace gasket, he said put someting on the out side. I don't remember if it actually sealed it or not. I do know I always put a bead of sealant in that area on reasembly after I became aware of that problem area.

In a pinch you can us a cold weld compound. JB Weld makes a decent one, but only f you are in a pinch.
