Farmall M PTO crapped out

Went out late this evening to mess around a bit and was gonna grease and oil the chains on the square baler i just picked up. Hooked it to the old M because it was handy (don't ever use it for anything beside hay rides and such) Anyhow, all the M would do would shake the driveline like an impact wrench with too little air pressure. Thought the baler was bound up, but could turn the driveline with minimal effort by hand. How big a job am I in for or should I just leave it to its job of hayride leader?

The drive clutch at the rear of the system (just inside the casting), or the drive splines in the countershaft (front of shaft in the trans) are toast. The rear clutch can be fixed or replaced pretty easily. If it is the front splines it might need transmission work to fix it. Putting the front wheels 20 inches lower than the rears will let you take out the PTO W/O oil every where. Jim
