Super H Oil and Grease Job

Ok guy's, did the first grease and oil on my SH. Found 13 zerks including the one on the fan hub. So how many did I miss? I can take it.... Oil was pretty dirty but not horrible. Found just a little sludge in the drain plug cavity so I won't pull the pan like I intended on doing if it was heavy. By the way, what is that little float type deal you can feel inside the pan through the drain hole? Moves up and down freely. Oil pressure went from 54# to a steady 60# with the fresh oil and filter. Cleaned out the air cleaner basin and put fresh oil in there too. Put a few drops of oil in the oil cup on the rear of the generator as well. The leak I posted about last night on the rear section of the tractor was coming mainly from the drain plug. Pulled it, wire wheeled it, teflon taped it and back together. Looks good. The 2 seals in the cavity just above the drain are showing some slight leakage but won't tackle that one yet. Anti-freeze is deep lime green and looks clean. No leaks on anything else so I think I'm good to go for awhile. Thanks for all the input!

I don't often say this, Tom, But get yourself an owner's manual for your tractor. It's the most basic of the manuals available for it, is genrally devoted to maintenance. The most technical it gets has to do with timing the mag or battery distributor. There will be several pages out in the middle of it that deal with lube types and frequency, means of checking levels . . . Most of those will list capacities, either in the maintenance tables/pages, or in the specs in the last few pages with other specs. One well worth heeding relates to the battery ignition distributor. You may or may not have found zerks there. They require regular but VERY LITTLE grease, so IH left them off and put slot-head plugs in their places. If you find zerks there, do not pump grease in until they make a noise or produce grease through one gap or the other. If they do, you will have filled all or part of your distributor with grease.

you may also have a grease zerk for the clutch pilot bearing. if so, it is in the flywheel accessible at the bottom of the bellhousing thru the drain hole. on the crankshaft you will see two timing marks, and then a ways around there will be a single mark. line up the single mark to the timing pointer, the look up thru the drain hole at the fly wheel. if there is a zerk there, give it one or 2 pumps.

Hi Scotty, Thanks for the input. I will get a manual for this tractor. I do need it. There was one zerk on the distributor and I gave it 2 pumps only. I won't give it anymore. She started right up, pressure came up and all looks good. Thanks again! Tom
