Super C still won't crank

I now have new battery cables, a fully charged battery, a rebuilt starter, the metal and all attaching hardware is cleaned and shiny. She still won't start. When I pull the handle to start her it's like I'm doing nothing... no noise or anything. Other suggestions?

The stud on the side of the starter is worn enough that the moving contact in the sw is not touching it. File out the holes where it mounts so that it moves forward about 1/2 of a hole.
THis should make it work!! Jim

must be a home rebuild on the starter, otherwise all those components would be new. never know when someone says rebuilt? your diagnosis makes sense though jim. just that "rebuild starter" makes a person scratch his head.

Are you sure battery voltage is reaching the starter when you pull the handle to start the engine. Have you tried shorting across the studs on the starter with a screwdriver to see if the engine will crank. Make sure the tractor is out of gear and the brakes locked when doing this. Hal

Some of the '''imported'''' switches are far from IHC spec on the dimension to the contacts.
even if the starter contact is OK. Jim

(quoted from post at 17:51:09 09/08/10) File out the two screw holes that mount the sw to the starter?

Slot the holes in the switch. The idea is to move the switch closer to the contact on the starter.

I cannot see your SC. Many have a mechanical switch that is mounted on the starter with 2 screws.
THe mounting position of the switch is away from the contact (under the sw) filing out the holes will allow the switch to move toward the contact, allowing it to make contact. If your tractor has a different type switch, let us know. (or use a picture). A direct hump from battery to starter stud, and battery to ground, will bypass all switches and determine if the starter is working.
Make sure it is in neutral. Jim

How do you know the battery is fully charged did you take a hy reading of each cell. What voltage do you read at the sw when pulling the rod. With the lites on what happens to them when starting. You have a bad contac at the sw or a bad battery.
