Farmall A Transmission Issue

Hey all. I have a question about the transmission on my 1945 Farmall A. About a week ago, my dad and I drained all the fluid from the rear end and transmission and replaced it with 80/90 gear oil. After changing it I've had a pretty good leak which I've figured was due to old dry seals, etc. At any rate, on Saturday I was mowing and the tractor jumped out of first gear a time or two and then I noticed I couldn't get it into reverse. The shifter won't slide all the way to the right to drop it into reverse. It goes into all the other gears without any issue or problems at all. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I was able to muscle it over and into reverse one time but decided that wasn't a good idea. Thanks for any input.

Probably an issue with ball and spring rail positioning detents. Pull the top off and have a look it will be pretty easy and only cost a gasket, (or a thin skiff of RTV to reassemble it. Jim

OK. I got around to pulling the top off today and don't see any issues. Operating off of the premis, take it apart and put it back together and see how it works.

When I pulled the top off, I had the shifter in neutral and when i put it back on, the tractor is in gear but the shifter is still in neutral. How do you set the gear sprockets back to neutral position and get the top back on while keeping the tractor in neutral?
