Exhaust pipe on BN

Anyone know offhand what size and thread is needed for the nipple that extends from the exhaust manifold through the hood and into the muffler? Looks like standard pipe thread and 1 7/8". Mine had an old diverter for the lift bellows on and was only being held by a few threads that finally left go. Don't need the diverter, so thought I would simply put a 4-6" steel nipple through the hood. Any thoughts here?

1-1/2" standard pipe thread. Use a tap on the threads first to clean them well. (rent it if you cannot get one loaned to you, Pricing one will damage your sensibility) Jim

if you can't find a tap then
cut a pipe nipple at least four times thru the threads
this will clean up exsisting threads ok
use with care and patience

Yes, that trick does work. Admmitedly it is not as good as using a regular pipe tap, but it sure beats having nothing.

Thanks for the help, guys. A 6" black steel nipple from Lowes threaded right in after I cleaned up the threads a bit.

Cool tip! Never knew that one.

You can do the same thing with a bolt, if the bolt hole is full of crud. Again, not as good as using a threading tap, but in a pinch, and with enough patience, it will get the job done.
