Hard starting H

Happy Labor Day!

I have been working on Dad's H. It has sat for a few years, but cleaned things up, put in a carb kit, and it fired right off. I let it run for a while, drained the oil, changed it with a filter, went to start it, and it would not start. If I spin the starter for a while, give it a rest, and spin her again it will start, and run fine without sputtering or anytinng. Yesturday I would periodicaly start it throughout the day, the first being the hardest, but after that it fires right up. Late last night it did not want to start, and I noticed a little smoke, (?) being pushed out the aircleaner hose as it was spinning over. Do you think it is flooding itself?
Thanks

That's the exact same issue I had with mine awhile back. After some great input from users on here, we determined it was in fact flooding itself. My float needed to be adjusted to the proper level and all was well.
Mine was flooding to the point I would get fuel sputtering out of the bottom of the carb itself until it ran about 15 seconds.

Always shut off the fuel at the tank. It seems to be a pain, but these old units really do not like to be given fuel when shut off. A clean needle and seat with a tiny hair in it will leak enough to do that. Jim
