M steering Lubricant

I'm having some issues with my steering and want to refill the lube in the worm gear and steering sector. Is that grease or 90 weight oil? My IT manual doesn't mention what lube to use. Thanks.

If you have replaced the seal under the gear box, it is OK to use 90wt. If the seal is a possible leak source, I recommend using Mobile1 synthetic chassis grease. It is stable and not prone to melting in the heat of the radiator, or turning solid in the cold of winter. Jim

It came from the factory with 90w gear lube. If the seals don't leak I would recomend the 90w. If they leak, & most do until rebuilt, I would use some type of grease. Personally, I use CIH cornhead grease. It doesn't get as stiff when the weather turns cold.

A lubricant you can use is called "Fluid Gear Grease" from FARM OYL. This is a hybrid mixture of gear lube and grease. It won't get stiff when its cold out.
