Farmall Super C hard starting

I have a Super C that when it sits for more that a day it starts hard, cranks for 60-90 seconds. I do not choke it. But it acts like it flooded. It will then start, run rough, belch black smoke, and then even out and run perfect. The rest of the day it will fire immediatley. Compression is 120 on all 4. Plugs are a pretty tan and not fouled. I'm used to my SH that can sit for months and fire in less that 5 seconds of cranking. SC does have the Carter UT carb on it. I suspect that that is the problem but what to do about it?

My C does the same, and I do have a Carter on it. Problem with mine is leaky needle valve. I simply shut off fuel when I am finished, and does not cause a problem. If I forget, and let it sit for more than 20 or 30 minutes, it is hard to start, belches black until it cleans out, then it is fine.

Description of a leaking float needle valve in your carb. Needle valve may be bad or you may have sediment keeping it from closing.

Needle and seat need attention. Always shut off the fuel when the tractor is shut off. It is just the best policy. Jim

Thanks Guys, I have rebuilt several IH carbs and got them right the 1st time. The Carter UT carb on this SC took multiple attempts to get it right and apparently it is still not quite right. I now join the opinion of those in the archives that this carb is a piece of junk.
