300U carburetor

I want to pull the carburetor off my 300U to clean it. Since one of the screws faces the engine block, whats the best way to get this loose?

I don't have experience with that model, but often a stubby screwdriver or a right angle will work, or sometimes you have to unbolt it from the manifold and take the whole carb down.

A short, angled box end wrench, a wee bit of determination, a healthy dose of luck, and it helps if you hold your tongue just right.

thanks. I tried dropping the bottom half but the engine block water drain is mounted directly below. Wonderful engineering. My JD and Ferguson carbs are simple to remove. This 300U tractor is downright goofy.

Many years ago I picked up a cheap wrench and then took my torch and bent it just for working on the Farmall carbs. Yep they can be a real pain in the back sides to get off but with so creative thinking it is not all that hard to do

yea your best bet is just to customize a box end wrench by heating and bending it (12 point)then grind it thin enough to fit and do that tongue thing and you will be alright...

After just pulling the carb off my "new" 450 to unplug the idle passage so I could load it up, I now remember my gramp's box-end wrench that was bent in a half-moon shape- they made up a dozen of them when he had the IH dealership. It looked like such a simple job, 2 nutz, 2 screws, gas line, choke cable, right out in the open- sort of. 5 minutes for 5 of them, 1/2 hr for that back nut...
That sucker does run sweet now, though

Not the best, but I have removed several carbs with a stubby combination wrench.

Iv'e got a Snap-on 1/2-9/16 box end combo wrench that Iv'e had for many years and removed many M series 400/450 and 560 carbs. But when I can't find it, damn !!!!!!
