Lights Flashing Erratically - (Video Demonstration)

Hey guys, first of all I would like to thank each and every one of you that has taken the time to help me with the rebuild of this 140 tractor especially with some of the "basic" questions I've had. I'm sure that stuff can be annoying sometimes. Thanks so much everyone!!

Now, my problem now is basically described in the attached video. If you watch it, you will see whats going on and I describe everything.

The only thing I am going to mention is that the alternator as of now isn't hooked up (we're in the process of getting a new one). And to the best of my knowledge, the voltage regulator is built in the alternator; so therefore it doesn't have one of those hooked up either. With that being said, please watch the video and tell me what you think might be the problem.

I'm not sure what it is, but when we hook up the alternator and voltage regulator; it might fix the problem. I'm sure you experts out there will know exactly what it is though. Can't wait to hear from ya!!!

There is a chance that the electrical system is so noisy that the light flasher unit is getting signals that cause it to be irratic. If it is electronic heavy duty that may be tha case. It might settle down when the alternator is in use, but it might not. If you have access to a auto wrecking yard, a filter capacitor off of alternator, or the back of a radio. These supress radio frequency spikes and voltage that disturbes the flasher. A different flasher might also fix it. Jim

Try to hook it directly to the battery & not through the ign. The back EMF from the coil may be doing that to the flasher if it is electronic. Or get an old style flasher with mechanical points.

You bought a fancy electronic flasher, didn't you?

Get an old fashioned mechanical one, and it'll work fine.

The only flashers that NAPA had were "Electronic-Mechanical" flashers. Those were the only ones that were closest to Mechanical Flashers. Where can I find one of the "old fashioned" ones??

We've got a 1972 Ford Ranchero GT with 60,000 orig miles that currently isn't running. Do you think it'll have one in it??? If it does, I'm sure it'll still be good since it don't have many miles on it.

Anyone else watched the video and have any suggestions/answers???

In the meantime, I'm gonna see what is in the old Ford and test out that flasher if it is similar.
