Needing an Alternator and Harness Plug for 140

Guys, my 76 140 had the 12 volt alternator on it from the factory. The original got hot in the fire and doesn't work anymore. The harness plug that plugs into it also got burned.

Does anyone know where I can get both pieces that are the same as the original specs?? Since it was a factory option I need to get the right one so it will bolt up correctly on the factory brackets.

Thanks for all your help/suggestions, and patience with me as I'm getting this tractor put back together again and running!!

A 1976 Chev (not Chevette) 10SI will bolt up perfectly. The plug is available at O'Reilleys in the HELP section. Locally priced at $2.95.
HELP

Thanks so much for the info. I will be checking on where to get one (either new or rebuilt). What do you guys suggest, and where do you think I can find one of those alternators at a good price???

Bus driver is correct I think, I used a Pontiac alternator on mine... their were some minor diferences but it bolted right up.

I used delco 10SI's on both 140's. Used a 3 wire setup so they charge even at low rpm's. Get them at o'reilly's, auto zone, etc. I order all my harnesses from the Brillman Co.

Do you get your alternators at Autozone, O'Reillys, etc?? I called NAPA and they needed all of the info on the 1976 Chevrolet to be able to look the alternator up. They wanted to know whether it was truck or car, and what type of engine it had. Haha, I told them it was for a Farmall tractor, and that really confused her!!

If I go to the auto parts store to look for a harness that plugs into the alternator ( I have the 2 wires going to it and can just splice it in), do I buy a 2 wire or a 3 wire plug?? Do I need a ceramic resistor because there were 3 of them wired to the alternator that burnt in the fire.

I think we are gonna go with one from Advance Auto Parts. They quoted me a good re-built one for $35.00. I'm gonna get a plug if it doesn't come with one (hopefully they sell them).

They said there is an alternator for a V6 and a V8 engine. I'm gonna take the old one up there to match it to the right one. Can't be that hard to figure out which one it is.

Got a new (rebuilt) alternator and harness plug from Advance today and gonna put it on either tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for all the help guys.
