IH 706 for snowblower?

Hi fellas,

I've been lurking around the Ford forum for a year or so now after purchasing an 861 for moving snow from a small driveway. My wife and I recently purchaed an acreage with a 500 foot driveway and a history of the county road drifting shut so I've been considering my options for a larger 75hp or so tractor that will accomodate a two stage blower. Have been considering a 706. Any opinions for how well a 706 will handle the blower? Any recommendations for a better unit in that size? Thanks in advance for any info. LC

Here is a better unit. LOL

I know nothin' fer nothin' 'bout snow blowers, but this outfit just absolutely works the snot out of my 966 which has been turned up as far as I dare (bout 115 horse). :>(

Can't imagine even hooking a smaller tractor to it. Dunno, maybe two-stage machines are easier to pull?

Here's one I built as a vo-ag/FFA project in high school by in '75/'76. (It IS IH-related 'cause the blower is powered by an IH truck V-8.)

The blower is a Hiniker, the rest I built.

I've been using a 966 with a hydro to run on a 7' single stage blower for 25 years or so. Use it to load trucks from a windrow of snow that is 7' wide at the base and as high as we can pile it. Like Allen in NE said it will work the heck out of it at times. The hydro really shines in this type of set up. So to compramise you could problably get by with a 706 sized tractor as long as it was a hydro. I know hydros may not be the best for heavy field work, but for blowing snow it works great. We did use a 656 hydro when our 966 was in the shop. The 656 did the job but it took quite a bit longer because the HP wasn't there. Dan
