Start up after a year and a half....

Due to an arrangement with a local framer, I did not cut my field last year so he could bail it. Last summer ended with so much rain he could not bail it and I could not get on it and mow. My IH 350 Utl. has not run sice spring 2009. Any start up tips and harazards??? Gas tank is leaking as well. Any tricks or tips to removing??

Is the tank leaking from a fitting or is it a rust-through thing? Fittings are replacable or fixable. As far as starting up, you should watch the oil pressure closely & be sure that it is in the normal range.

The gas is running out of the bottom but I can't see if it's the fitting or the tank. That is why I thought of removing the tank. Good idea or bad?? Is it hard to remove?

Look inside the tank with a good flashlight to see if there's rust in the bottom of the gas tank. If you see a lot of rust the tank may have rusted through and is leaking. Remove the sediment bowl and shutoff valve after you've drained the tank. Once the tank is drained install a pipe plug in the gas tank use teflon tape on the plug then pour some gas back into the tank to see if the tank still leaks. You probably need fresh gas too. Hal

The 350 U has a baffle tube in the tank that only allows a look at a 3 inch spot on the bottom, but not where the sediment bulb is located. Wiping off and using a good light source (with no sparking parts) can locate the leak. Jim

Thanks for all the tips. Weather has broke in Pa and you can work outside without melting!!! Will be putting all your tips to the test this week. Watch for more questions!!! Thanks again.
