IH 674 Diesel with Blow by

Well I guess it's time for some engine work. My sweet running little 674 has started some pretty good blow by. I started out with the side down pointing blow by tube. I blocked it and changed out the valve cover to one with the top vent on it. I used the tractor for a couple of hours Saturday and 3 or 4 Sunday. When working it hard it's probably blowing out a quart every hour and a half. Kept stopping and adding. Never done any work on a diesel engine. Guess I'll try to find someone that will do in my barn on the side. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I have seen kits for that engine {Pistons, sleeves, bearings and gaskets} from $740.00 to over $1000.00

It is a pretty straight forward job pull the head and pan then push the sleeves out with a jack to start them only need to push them about an inch and they will be loose since they are wet sleeves. Look for water leaking down the block first though.
You can do this yourself.
