The shifting mechinism is probally wore out. Is is it difficult to the high/lo pivoting arm and its components. Is there a kit for this?

Getting to the range cover is relatively easy.

You gotta get this notion of "kit" out of your head. You're working on a 50-year-old tractor, not putting a 6" suspension lift on a 2-year-old pickup truck. The only kits from that era were plastic model kits of cars and airplanes.

Look at the detent cam on the back side of the main shift cam on the lever in the lid. See if the spring is missing or if the nubs are worn off from use. If that is good then look at the amount of wear on the sliding gear and on the matching gear After all these years it is probably worn quite a bit. Also if you are having trouble with reverse look at the little flipper on the lid for wear in the lid or on the shaft also the pin and slot on the flipper. There are 3or 4 small rollers on the pins to the whole mechanism don"t lose them or you will find them in the filter later or between gear teeth.
