What is this??

Also, does anyone have a "key" to what the numbers represent?? Thanks so much for all your help and expertise!

appears to be a starter silanoid(magnetic switch) battery power (large wire with smaller wire) smaller wire goes to switch and back to coil terminal on silanoid creating a magnetic field causing bar inside silanoid to bridge contacts(large wire terminals) sending battery power to starter terminal. my guess, no way to be sure. d.coleman

It is a poor representation of a starting relay (often incorrectly called a solenoid) it is the place to attach the source for the circuit you are considering. Attachment point is under the large battery cable terminal. Not the big terminal that leads to the starter. It is a magnetically operated momentary contact high amperage switch. Jim

I described it, you just need to read it. below in this post.
There is also a nice diagram I drew up on the original post!! Check IT, it is the real thing.
Jim

Use 12 gauge wire and solder all connections then use shrink tubing to keep them dry and protected from shorts. Jim

On a late 140 thats the starter switch. #12 went to starter, other large cable to battery. Think the smaller wire at battery cable terminal went to the ampmeter. Think the other small wire went to a neutral start switch. maybe they have it straight to switch. If there's a terminal for another small wire it would go to the ignition resistor or coil. Can't remember for sure, could count the number of late 140 tractors looked at on the fingers of one hand with some left over. Some came with a altenator and negative ground I think.

From what manual did the pic come from? I have a 140 with electrical problems and have never found a diagram for my tractor - late model 140 ser #63048
From looking at mine this is what I see
1 is headlamp 2 is connector to light assembly
3 is tan wire to coil
4 is my governor has two brackets that are part of the harness, and another larger one (5) that attaches to the thermostat housing... 8 is a bracket that on the left side of the engine also has ground wires atached
19 is the resistor
24 is the starter relay 12 is the cable from the relay to starter 26 is the clutch switch
29 is the taillamp 33 is the hazard/turnsigal lamp

I found it on the CASE/IH site. It really isn"t that clear and doesn"t help out that much except for telling you what is supposed to be there. I need something that tells you how everything is wired up and so forth.

39 and 40 is two brackets that hold a section of delco conduit to protect the wiring as it passes the hydraulics...

The delco conduit is just a heat resistant plastic cover, can get it off junked GM car wiring harness
